Focus on Congenital Cardiac Surgery

This DVD covers the extraordinary and unique second live symposium “Focus on Congenital
Cardiac Surgery”. The well-known, specialized audiovisual team, MediAVentures,
assembled this 240 minute DVD, guaranteeing optimal visualization of all operative
procedures.

During the two days, eleven patients with complex congenital cardiac defects were
successfully treated using interventional (3) and surgical (8) approaches. The DVD gives an
overview of these procedures including focused presentations from renown experts in the
field. On the first day, the focus was on different aspects of left ventricular outflow tract
obstruction including subaortic stenosis, aortic valve stenosis, Truncus arteriosus communis,
interrupted aortic arch and coarctation of the aorta. On the second day, the focus was on the
right venticular outflow tract including infundibular stenosis, pulmonary valve stenosis, Tetralogy of Fallot and stenoses of the branch pulmonary arteries. All cases were transmitted
live with online commentary and discussion.

The Symposium was organized by Prof. Friedrich-W. Mohr, Prof. Martin Kostelka and Dr.
Thomas Walther from the Leipzig team together with colleagues from the German Heart
Center Munich (Prof. Lange and Prof. Hess) and from Great Ormond Street Hospital, London
(Prof. de Leval and Prof. Elliott). There were 200 participants, pediatric cardiologists as well
as pediatric cardiac surgeons. Active and online discussions made this meeting a unique,
successful and educational event.
